Carbon particles with core–shell structure for a fluidized bed electrode have been prepared with the active carbon and the hydrophilic polymer with an ion compound in the aqueous solution to enhance the coating efficiency. The ion compound was mostly ionized in an aqueous solution, which was added to provide ion mobility inner the carbon particle. In addition, the hydrophilic polymer was used for the homogeneous coating on the surfaces of carbon particles. The types of ion compound and the number of coating were controlled to optimize the shape of polymer layer generated around carbon particle. The polymer layer was continuously coated on the surface of carbon particle when the ion compound with high degree of electrolytic dissociation was added. In addition, the polymer layer with coalescent particles was observed on the surfaces of carbon particles with increasing the coating numbers due to the intensified entanglement between polymer chains.
